Third generation network (3G) is a network that following the rules used for development of mobile devices and telecommunication and comply with the international mobile telecommunications – 200.  3G network provided support services with a transfer rate of 200 kilobits per second. Later 3G was enhanced to 3.5G and later to 3.75G that provide a mobile broadband to laptops and smartphones and with a larger access range of megabits per second.

3G network is important in the business activities because it plays a big role in enabling Internet connection beyond the capabilities and flexibility of the 2G. The network provider provides the connection with low latency for real-time or two-way communications. It will include high data rates for bandwidth for intensive applications and services. It has got an integrated global positioning satellite for location based services. It has an improved capacity for much scalability. 3G network will have a prolonged life cycle hence enabling future-proof products and solutions and will preserve investments. This network is used for the direct form or the point to point connection as well as for the backhaul connectivity to items such as the concentrators, gateways, and other short-range wireless networks. The power of 3G network has played a big role in the growth of internet connection.

About the security concerns associated with the 3G network, a discovery is made out that the 3G network has high-security levels due to the 3G’s IP – based architecture. This architecture support lead to internet security protocols such as the TSL/SSL and IPsec that have more efficient rates and support better levels of encryption

4G Technology

The fourth generation network 4G succeeds the 3G in the mobile telecommunication technology. It provides capabilities defined by ITU in IMT advanced. It has potential current applications such as the IP telephony, amended mobile web, video conferencing, 3D television, high definition mobile TV and cloud computing. There are two 4G potential systems that are deployed in the market; the mobile WiMAX standard and the long term evolution (LTE) standard. The 4G network has got a high download speed of 100Mbps and an upload speed of 5O Mbps. The network is twice faster than the 3G and many faster than the previous versions.

Application of the 4G network in the businesses, gives the businesses a competitive hand because it has extra features that enable efficient communication in the business activities. The network has enabled features like the IP – based femtocell that enable fixed connection of the internet broadband to home nodes. In this feature of home broadband, EE will enable a speed of between 8 Mbps and 12 Mbps, which is potentially faster than the other version of ADSL home broadband. It has the capability of using channel dependent scheduling that will involve time varying channel. It also has a high spectral efficiency using spatial processing including a multi – antenna and a multi-user MIMO. The 4G network will be efficient for video streaming, and it requires Wi-Fi for smooth performance.

The security concerns on the 4G network are that the network has an advanced architecture that a multiplexing platform that has high standards and measures enabling the secure connection. The 4G network contains the control elements such as the mobility management entity, packet data network gateway, policy and charging rules function, and service gateway that are connected to the external network ensuring security protocols are met.
